The San Diego Central Courthouse is a 22-story, 704,380-square-foot court and office building in Downtown San Diego. The project consolidates multiple facilities in the downtown metropolitan area, including the County, Family, and Madge Bradley courthouses and helps reduce crowds and increase security. At 389 feet tall, the courthouse features 71 courtrooms and a 182-foot-long pedestrian bridge connecting the new building with the existing Hall of Justice. The modernized facility aids sustainable efforts by incorporating construction materials and techniques which naturally cool the building and bicycle/electric vehicle incentives.

Morley Construction Company provided concrete subcontracting services for the project, a structural steel building with concrete fill on metal decks. The mat foundation for this building has thicknesses ranging from 4’-6” to 25’-0” thick, designated as “mass concrete”. To properly construct the mat foundation per these plans and specifications, Morley utilized the first thermally cooled concrete mat foundation placement in San Diego’s history.
