The largest project in San Diego’s history at the time, Pacific Beacon BEQ provides high-quality housing to over 1,900 enlisted servicemen.
To meet the schedule goals of this blast-resistant structure, Morley produced and cycled 40,000 square feet of elevated deck every five days, nearly four times faster than an average high-rise tower in downtown San Diego. Each day’s work was converted to a graphic index card that fostered assembly line-type construction with small crews dedicated to completing the same work each day. As a result, the project was completed six months ahead of schedule, without additional costs for acceleration.
Pacific Beacon was the nation’s first public-private venture military housing project.
