Plaza Verde is a student housing community consisting of a five-story, Type III building with 410 units ranging from one- to four-bedroom apartments totaling 1,441 beds. The three-story, concrete community center features multi-purpose space, a fitness center, leasing offices, Internet cafe, and study rooms. The five-story parking structure provides 532 parking spaces, a maintenance office, bike hub, and features an intricate exterior aluminum skin. The LEED Gold project is University of California’s first Zero-Net Energy operation. The community operates on an all-electric system and a 1.4-megawatt photovoltaic array atop the parking structure offsets the annual energy usage of the building.
Morley Construction Company provided the structural concrete for the project, totaling 15,733 cubic yards. The residential building scope of work included structural concrete foundations, slab-on-grade, columns, beams, and elevated decks. The community center features a podium structure. The Type II parking structure included pad footings (both interior and exterior) as well as mat foundation reinforced with mild steel.
