As one of the largest excavations at that time, the Olympic West Parking Structure was built to provide parking for more than 2,600 parking spaces under the L.A. Live! development in downtown Los Angeles. Located on six acres, the massive structure consists of three subterranean levels with one partial above-grade level. Large, heavily reinforced beams were incorporated into the northern portion to accommodate construction of the convention center and theaters now located atop the garage (built by PCL).
Morley performed the forming, placing and finishing of 62,000 cubic yards of concrete over 1,000,000 square feet of space. Due to the large size of the structure, billboard construction was used, working from the inside and moving towards the outer portions of the site. This strategy allowed for materials laydown space and access to work areas within the excavation. It also minimized impacts to adjacent construction and reduced the need for perimeter access and street closures.
