Morley formed, placed and finished all structural concrete for this replacement health center in Santa Monica. The five-story structural steel building sits atop a base-isolated cast-in-place concrete slab up to 16" thick with beams up to 9' wide. The scope of work included construction of concrete bases and grade beams to provide a foundation for the isolators, as well as the construction of a near mirror image formed slab and beam deck atop the isolators to serve as the foundation for the hospital structure, which now has a maximum displacement of 26” in any direction to protect against earthquake damage.
