Carrier Center

Carrier Center

Morley Construction Company provided concrete subcontracting services for the Carrier Center, which involved the seismic upgrade to the former Robinson’s May department store in downtown Los Angeles. Now converted for telecom use, the project included shoring; excavation; and the installation of new foundations, shear walls, drag beams, and a new LADWP vault substation. Slabs were reinforced, columns were encased, existing openings were infilled, and new topping and built-up slabs were installed to create new elevations within the structure, all of which tie the 1914 concrete frame building to the 1922 steel frame addition.
